I concentrate my practice on property tax litigation and assessment law. I have years of experience successfully negotiating and litigating tax appeals on a wide range of commercial, industrial, residential and exempt real estate, as well as personal property. My success is the result of an in-depth understanding of appraisal and assessment theory and law. I also have significant experience as a litigator of business disputes and criminal proceedings.
I regularly represent some of the largest property owners in New England. My clients have included commercial, industrial and residential property owners, tenants, developers, management companies, tax exempt organizations, individuals and municipalities. My expertise extends to all issues related to property taxation. Mark Murphy, Esq.
Mark Murphy focuses his practice on assessment law and property tax litigation. He has years of experience representing national, regional and local property owners and tenants in complex property tax litigation. Mark is the Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Property Tax Attorneys ("NAPTA"), a nonprofit organization of ad valorem and property tax attorneys throughout the United States.
Mark also has extensive experience as a litigator. He previously worked in the Business Litigation Department at Burns & Levinson LLP in Boston, Massachusetts, where he practiced in the areas of real estate tax, contract and employment litigation. Before joining Burns & Levinson, Mark was an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County, New York.
Mark graduated from Villanova University with a B.S. degree in accounting. He recently served as President of the Villanova Club of New England. He was previously certified as a public accountant by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mark received a J.D. degree from George Washington University School of Law where he was selected to be a member of the Moot Court Board and served as Treasurer of the Student Bar Association.
Mark is a member of the Massachusetts and New York bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is a member of the American and Massachusetts Bar Associations, serves on the Taxation Law Section Council and previously was Chair of the Municipal Tax Practice Group of the Massachusetts Bar. He is an elected member and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Assessors in Westwood, MA. Mark is a member of The International, Northeastern Regional, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont Associations of Assessing Officers. He is also a member of Lambda Alpha International, an honorary land economics society. He previously served on the Board of Editors of the Boston Bar Journal.
Gail Carchedi began with Mark Murphy Law Offices, LLC in 2016 with an extensive background in accounting. Gail’s duties as the office manager include managing all accounting and billing for the firm. She also oversees the day to day operations of the office.

Alixe Weisman began with the firm in the summer of 2018 and serves as a paralegal, assisting in all aspects of the tax abatement process. She is responsible for managing the appeal process for the firm. Alixe is also responsible for conducting research related to new clients and properties, tax rates, tax ratios and revaluations, among other things. She maintains all current property data. Alixe manages the responses to income and expense requests. She also schedules and attends property inspections for our clients. Alixe is also responsible for managing all technology related issues at the firm.

Jim Recks began with the firm in 2020 and serves as a Real Estate Valuation Consultant. He is responsible for researching properties and market data, reviewing financial data and preparing settlement proposals. He also works with appraisers to assist them with valuing properties. In addition, he attends property inspections and revaluation hearings.
